Resources Dog Training - Atlanta

Atlanta Dog Training Resources

Dog training is a vital part of having a happy, healthy dog. Believe it or not, your dog is never too old to learn. Laughing Pets Atlanta believes in positive reinforcement training. It’s proven to be safe and effective and is at the forefront of the training community. Trainers who train under this philosophy do not use methods of punishment, shock collars, prong collars, choke collars, bark collars, etc. The idea behind the methods is to ignore bad behavior and reward good behavior. When a dog is rewarded for a behavior, he will continue to do it. Rewards include treats, verbal praise, toys and other things.

There are many great trainers in the Atlanta area whether you want to do private, in-home training or group classes. There is also the option of board-and-train. Please be aware that many board and train facilities do not subscribe to positive-reinforcement training, especially those who train working dogs, hunting dogs, police and military dogs. Many of these types of places use punishment and dominance training which often scars the dog and makes the dog more fearful of humans. In addition, the methods may not work when you get home. It’s always best to participate in your dog’s training. It will be fun for you and fun for your dog.

There are also ways that you can learn to train your dog on your own, through books and videos. However, I only recommend these tools for basic obedience training such as sit, stay, down and touch. Behavioral problems such as separation anxiety, guarding the owner, food guarding, leash reactivity (unfairly deemed “leash aggression), etc. really do require hands-on professional training.
